Recruitment in progress for 2007/2008
Jim
When I was a child my parents had a swimming pool in our yard and my exceptionally talented cousin taught me how to swim. After learning how to swim I had an understanding of how to be careful in and around the water. This experience opened up a lot of opportunities for me to live and grow.
For many summers I enjoyed working as a lifeguard on the shores of Lake Erie. I have swam competitively on swim teams throughout my life. I made a lot of close friends along the way. I was fortunate enough to get a swimming scholarship while I attended Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. In college, I took on coaching an age group swim team, and this was very exciting. During one summer I worked as a counselor/coach at the University of Texas Longhorn swimming camp. This trip and many swim meets allowed me to see many places.
After graduating with a B.S. in Elementary and Special Education I came out to Las Vegas to teach second grade for the Clark County School District. Then I acquired my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in mathematics at UNLV.
I have continued to teach swim lessons through private instruction in the summers. I enjoy swimming on a Masters swim team in Las Vegas, and have volunteered as an assistant coach for my team. Being an educator in the classroom and in the pool is very rewarding. I really believe in learning and expanding your knowledge.
Swimming has always been a part of my life in some way and I am happy to make it a part of someone else's life. Whatever your goals are that involve swimming, I would like to help you accomplish them. I look forward to working with you and your child on your journey.
